About
Have you ever wished that you knew someone who was experienced in computers and technology, yet could also speak in plain English? Someone who could explain the mysteries of the computer and help you through the buying process. I’ve heard this before, and even experienced it myself a time or two.
My name is Eric Watermolen, and I aspire to be that someone. I have 15 years of experience in the computer industry in areas ranging from retail sales and technical support to server and corporate support. My philosophy on support is that anyone I support is my client. Whether this person is in the cubicle next door or thousands of miles away across the reaches of the Internet. And, I place a very high value on client service.
I pride myself on being able to speak and write in everyday English. I try to avoid the techno-babble as much as possible. I love to help people, and I can’t help people if they can’t understand what heck I’m saying. This philosophy started when I worked in a computer learning center as one of my first jobs. Parents would often ask for recommendations for children’s software and advice on computers. These parents were just regular people, and needed good advice that was easy to understand.
Seeing the need for easy to understand computer information, I authored a document titled “The Basics of Buying a Personal Computer System.” I uploaded it to a website and shared it with the world. It was a true joy to get feedback from folks that used my document to learn about computers before making a purchase. I kept the original document up to date for a number of years, but eventually time got the better of me, and I had to abandon the project. Fast forward about 10 years, and I have now completely revamped the original with all the latest information. It’s amazing the changes that have occurred over the past 15 years.
This new site, “The Basics of Buying” currently includes “The Basics of Buying a Personal Computer.” Over the coming months I’ll add content to include other technologies that seem to mystify us and are difficult to understand. I am very pleased to have the opportunity to act as your guide through the technology jungle. If you have any questions or comments, please send an email to questions@basicsofbuying.com.
